Davy knew how close he was to losing it all. Homelessness terrified him as a concept and even more as a state of being that was rarely more than one mis-step away. Every time he spoke to his mum, she tried to help and just added to his guilt and shame.
“You can come home any time you like. You know that, Davy. It doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It could just be a new start.”
It was the same every week: Monday evening came around and he knew she looked forward to hearing from him.
